Holiday Recipe: Earl Grey Tea & Lavender Cookies

Earl Grey tea + lavender + shortbread

Each one tastes like a sip of tea. Here’s how to make them.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tablespoon finely ground Earl Grey tea (use 3 tea bags or 4 teaspoons loose leaf)
  • ½ teaspoon culinary-grade lavender, finely ground
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

For Garnish

  • 1 teaspoon whole Earl Grey tea
  • ½ teaspoon culinary-grade whole lavender flowers

Instructions

1. Set oven to 350°F

2. Line cookie sheet with foil; spray with nonstick oil

3. Grind tea and lavender in spice grinder or mortar & pestle

4. Mix dry ingredients: flour, tea, lavender, baking powder, baking soda, salt

5. Combine butter and sugar with rubber spatula until light and fluffy

6. Mix egg and vanilla into wet ingredients

7. Slowly add dry ingredients; mix until dough forms

8. Scoop 1-tablespoon sized balls of dough; roll in hand to form balls

9. Place on cookie sheet one inch apart

10. Garnish with lavender

11. Bake for 12 minutes

12. Cool for 20 minutes to finish bake

13. Garnish with tea and serve with hot Earl Grey & milk
